Rose Festival (Praznik na Rozata) Rose Festival (Praznik na Rozata)
As many people know, Karlovo and Kazanlak are widely known as the Rose Valley of Bulgaria. The Rose oil from this part of the country is being sold all over the world and that’s why the celebrations connected with the Rose are taking big part of the native people. Every year, in the end of May and the beginning of June in Karlovo and Kazanlak, there is the Rose Festival. The celebrations begins with the Rozober ritual (rose picker) which is taking place in the rose fields outside of the city. There is a lot of traditional music, dances and food. From Roses Gardens, the festival is brought to the central square of Karlovo. There, young boys are carrying the Queen of the roses - the most beautiful girl of the year, chosen by competition. With a wreath of roses and littered with a rain of flowers, she welcomes the guests who came to the city to celebrate the festival. A colorful and cheerful celebration begins with many songs and dances. The folklore part of the holiday ends with a big horo dance.
